In 2012, nearly 3/4 of students (72%) have consumed alcohol (more than just a few sips)
by the end of high school, and more than 1/3 (37%) have done so by 8th grade.
The sad truth is that too many teens are doing more than just experimenting with alcohol, they are binge drinking. This is very bad for the health because it causes Blackouts and Memory Loss. Alcohol can produce detectable impairments in memory after only a few drinks and, as the amount of alcohol increases, so does the degree of impairment. When large quantities of alcohol are consumed in a short period of time, especially on an empty stomach, it causes blackouts, or an interval of time for which the intoxicated person cannot remember details of events, or even the whole night.
